Album Art

Tofer had his sister and I out shooting photos of him for his "album" - whenever that happens! This is an old guitar someone gave him for stacking wood! He put on my grampa's old, wool, hunting pants with patched knees and found some other things to put him in "character" and here we are at the Hobo Shoot!
Cricket had to get in on the action too, but I think next time we might have to borrow Oat - she seems a bit more like a travelin' dog than our queen bee does!

Thaw

I'm still doing the raw food challenge. With the coming of sunshine there is greater desire to eat raw. When it was still snowing and 34 degrees outside for some reason I didn't crave a chilly smoothie over a hot cup of coffee! This was part of dinner last night. A 7 grain and mushroom "tortilla" (brushed with EVOO) with green onion, tomato, cucumber, orange bell pepper and avocado slivers (with pink sea salt sprinkled sparingly) and a green smoothie made of apple, peach, mango, strawberry, banana, spirulina, wheat grass, barley grass, wheat sprouts, jerusalem artichoke, lemon, and flax seed. I know it looks and sounds gross, but even my kids want some when I drink it!
The sunshine has been working it's wonders in other areas too! The woodlands are greening! We have a pair of eagles that have chosen to nest on our hillside. When the sun is warm they circle on the wind currents and call to each other. Tofer has the hoop set up and has been out there shooting baskets every shiny afternoon when school is finished. Nimbal-O and he sat and chatted with one another yesterday.
Cricket and I and Cassia had hoped to walk along the creek and get a bit of exercise, but it is still to deeply entrenched in snow.
Little by little winter is losing it's grip on the mountain. It's raining today and we are hoping it is diminishing some of that frozen depth at the creek side. I'm sitting with a cup of peppermint tea watching the drizzle. We just finished PSAT tests and have one more week of school before we are on our 3 month break! I'm going to do dishes and then work on curtains for our bedroom (they've been in process for months). Life is good.

Suddenly Gone

A couple weeks ago we noticed a cough, and some labored breathing. But she was still so happy, eating well, wanting to play ball, playing keep away.
2 days ago I mentioned that it was odd that I hadn't seen Mazy in a couple days. She is always our first and last visitor of the day.
We got news today that Mazy had a cancerous tumor on her throat, and they had to put her down or let her suffer.
I've been crying.
She wasn't ours, but she has definatly a special part of our life in Montana. So much so that I am having a difficult time seeing our days rolling by without her.
Goodbye, sweet girl.

She Knows How to Charm Us!

She Knows How to Charm Us!, originally uploaded by efiw.

Maizy is our landlords' Golden Retriever who lives at our house! (at least 8/10ths of the day!)We adore her. She is gentle, loves to play, and is our loyal companion on hikes. This is her, "Can I have a cookie?", face!

The Big 6 Year Old!

Cricket turned 6 today! I can't believe we have had this little bundle of fluff and love that long!
James and I joke that she is the best investment we ever made with our $$, but it is probably true. The return in fun, love, cuddles, laughter, joy, and comfort has been much greater than we could have hoped or imagined.
Happy Birthday To The Best Dog Ever!

Ricksky-Roosker-Rono-Vitches

Her real name is Cricket-Quidah-of the Amber-Dropping Hair-Rumplesnout (or Cricket for short), but we hardly ever call her by either. Monkey Puppy, Monchichi, Rickey Roo, Munkster Roo, Igit, the list goes on... She answers to them all.

She has been a member of our family now for 5 1/2 years. We adore her.... and she adores us!
